Celebrating 150 Years of Johns Hopkins
Commemoration Day is one of Johns Hopkins University’s most cherished traditions, honoring the bold vision that launched the university in 1876 under its first president, Daniel Coit Gilman, who delivered his inaugural remarks on Feb. 22, 1876.
As part of the Sesquicentennial Celebration, Commemoration Days were celebrated across the university from Feb. 12–27, 2026. Schools and divisions across Johns Hopkins hosted a variety of events, programs, and activities that reflect on our shared history and look toward the future.
